PNdB signifies the percieved noise decibel (a unit to measure the level of noise in a certain environment ) .We have chozen to use this unit as our title with the significance that the unit should represent " an uncertain factor caused by the realization of perception and recognition" .
When we " see " an object, we simultaneously cast aside the other informations that are held in the environment ; and for the very first time the perception and recognition to " see " is realized . So to speak, a " figure " emerges as we " see " and the other perceptions are drawn back as the background .Yet, as a complete perceptive experience, we hear, smell, and feel at the same time . Those perceptions that were drawn back, connect with " see " -ing as "an uncertain factor caused by the realization of perception and recognition " .
However, couldn't this imply the general regard that each independent sense work in combination with the others ?
Hereupon, PNdB starts from considering perceptions as following . Perception is a sum of layers : layers of our connection with all substances . In other words, it is to consider perception not as an organ but as a certain level to connect with substances .
For example, with color we have different levels in connecting with it such as to " see " "look" " smell " " sniff " " hear " " listen " .
All these connections conclude as a whole, to colors . Thus, to " see " color is simply one level ( within our connection with colors ) to approach it . It is likewise with sound ; there are also certain levels in connecting with it such as to " see " " look " " smell " " sniff " " hear " " listen " and the entire sum of layers is the sound itself . Therefore to " listen " is merely a level of approaching one of our connections with the sound . It is also the same with scent . There are different levels in connecting with it such as "smell" " sniff " " hear " . . .and the sum of layers in general, is the scent . That is, our approach to " hear " " see " and " smell " is possible with a variety of substances . To " hear " " see " or " smell " does not differentiate the perceptions into certain spheres, but developes each level of the perceptions all told .
These levels of perceptions occasionally mingle and filter into each other . Yet, this does not signify that the " sensations " are uniting .
To differentiate various layers of perceptions or approaches into a certain sense organ - in the connection with the world - would imply the fixation of the world itself . Conversely, a method of perception, connection of the world, a dynamism of recognition free from differentiation of a certain sense organ is an experience of a vision of hope . To continue listening for the vision of hope, gliding from the sides of the "uncertain factor caused by the realization of perception and recognition " . PNdB considers this as the basis and concieves " perception/experience-mode works " in installations, interfaces, and events etc. that may provide an oppurtunity to experience the world ( the entire group of layers ) with a dynamic and mobile perception .
PNdB is originally operated by Takashi TSUDA and Humi MATSUDA; all the same PNdB highly values those who participate indirectly in each piece of work .In these occasions that we do have participants, instead of assigning roles we tend to hold meetings,
workshops, and sessions concerning perception in which PNdB's production is based upon . The works that have been presented in the past, such as " TASOWARE " - an installation focused on the recognition of time and space, the fusion of how the body ought to be, the mutual permeation within the bounadary of subject andobject ; the " Marking Event " is an experience - mode, participation - mode event aimed to transfigurate prospects ;" Duel Sight " and " Liquid Sight" are designed as a series, to experience the transfiguration of perception and body by wearing the " viewer" . Hereafter, PNdB plans to produce an experiential installation under the theme of " listening " .
